I woke up this morning to see my very own Prime Minister trending on Twitter. OvernightAustralia’s PM Julia Gillard has responded to a text messaging scandal within her own political party by attacking the Leader of the Opposition Tony Abbott.  Smart move huh?

Through out the epic 15 minute speech Gillard labels the Opposition Leader as a hypocritical misogynist and recalls in gory detail sexist remarks he has made – all whilst standing just a few feet away.

Regardless of your political preference you would have to agree that was well played Julia.  She has struck a chord amongst women and the story has been reported on websites around the world including Asia and the Middle East.  The video highlights the sexist behaviours that women are still forced to deal with even at the highest levels of government including double standards, undermining and crude jokes.

So the opening ceremony hasn’t even started yet and already we are buzzing around the office “shaking it to the right” in anticipation for tonight’s events.  Seriously, if I’d known the Spice Girls were going to perform I would have made more of an effort to get over there.

Reuters has launched a mobile application for the games so you can follow all the action.  Upon opening the app a beautiful stream of photos taken by award-winning photographers is presented.  It’s totally free and so far there are no advertisements.  With each photo you have the option of viewing related news stories and information about the photographers.  The app also contains a schedule of all the Olympic events and results.

Photo sharing is integrated with Facebook and Twitter.  There is a built in filter available so you can receive updates specifically on your preferred sports or countries of interest and set up push notifications.  Get the app on iTunes for iPhone and iPad only.

With the impending launch of Mad Mean Season 5 on March 25th a new internet sensation “Draping” is gaining popularity.  Similar to the previous “Planking” trend hundreds are posting pictures reflecting the shows main star Donald Draper extending his iconic right arm over a business chair.  Tag your Draping photo on twitter using #Draping and check out this blog loaded with lots of funny Draping pics.  The baby is definitely the cutest.
